Raising The Bar

I had a dream last was very clear. I was with my godbrothers and we were sitting in a circle talking about the importance of Japa. I spoke up and recalled what I had heard in a Japa retreat with Bhurijana dasa - he told us that we should raise our standard of Japa so that when we chant, we can remember that this is for the pleasure of Krsna and not just for our own purification.

Chanting Rhyme

There is a rhyme that I invented for my son to encourage him to concentrate while chanting Japa. It's very simple, but underlines two important points....hearing and pronounciation.

Chant the words so you can hear,
the Maha mantra loud and clear

In spiritual life, simple concepts are very important and these simple aspects of chanting are very important for our progress in Japa.

Questions and Answers

In this next part of the Japa Retreat, Bhurijana dasa discusses questions and answers from the participants.

Steer Your Thinking Back To The Sound

Some wise words from the Japa Reform Notebook about our duty to bring our mind back to the sound vibration of the Hare Krsna mantra

What if you think of the day’s devotional service when chanting your rounds? It is not so easy to stop the flow of our thoughts. So better you are thinking of devotional service than maya. But as far as possible try to steer your thinking back to the sound vibration of the holy name. Then after such absorption in chanting you can go forth to your day’s activities in the best condition.
