Most streaming audio links on Krishna.com use the “.m3u” or “.pls” file extension. This is a playlist file format and usually contains an embedded link to one or more mp3 audio files.
Windows Media Player 7 and higher on the PC, as well as iTunes and VLC on the Mac, should automatically be able to play “.m3u” or “.pls” files. Under normal circumstances, when you click on the streaming audio link on Krishna.com your audio player should open and start playing the file. (On PC, you may get a download window prompt that asks you if you want to open this file with “Windows Media Player” or save it…)
If you’re using one of the above programs, and you don’t hear anything when you click on the “Listen” link (or another radio or streaming audio link on our site), then:
1) Right-click on the live stream link and download it to your desktop.
2) Open the file with notepad or a simple text editor to see the Shoutcast live audio stream URL.
3) Copy the URL and paste it into your audio player’s equivalent of “Open URL” menu item.
In Windows Media Player, right-click on the little triangle next to “Now Playing” and then click on “File / Open URL…”
In iTunes, “Advanced / Open Stream…”
4) Still can’t get it to work? Consider downloading a nifty little audio player called VLC. It works on all platforms including PC, Mac, Linux.
Certain iTunes on Mac release versions don’t seem to automatically open “.m3u” files as of this writing. Drag and drop the “.m3u” file icon from your desktop to the iTunes playlist window. Once it’s in your playlist, just double click the stream the next time you open iTunes and it will start playing the live stream.
