“What’s new?”
We’re obsessed with newness. Mailboxes, televisions, and the Web are all full of news reports every single day. We want up-to-the-minute reports of what’s going on. Even if it’s the same old stuff repeating itself, ad infinitum, ad nauseam, there’s something within us that craves to know what’s new.
But there comes a time for everyone when someday, somehow, something happens, and we get sick of what passes for “news” in this world. We start looking for an alternative.
In a spiritual context, everything is always new. Fifty centuries after His appearance on Earth, people are more and more interested to know about Krishna and His activities. Why? Fifty centuries is a long time. Think about it.
Thoughtful people (and devotees of Krishna especially) can sense that there’s a big difference between what He does and what other people do–no matter how talented, powerful, rich, or attractive they might have been at some point in history. There’s just something else going on entirely. What is going on?
At Krishna.com, we try to bring you real “news,” the kind that doesn’t get “old.” For example, this month you’ll hear more about the lives of Krishna’s devotees, about the depth with which His devotees relate to one another, and about the uniquely insightful view His devotees have of this world.
So, log on, tune in, and tell us what’s new with you.
Your servants,
The Krishna.com Team
A devotee of Krishna knows he is not this body, that he is spirit soul within the body, and ultimately a servant of the supreme spirit, Krishna. He neither laments for the living nor for the dead. Does this mean he is heartless when it comes to dealing with the pain of others?
Read this letter from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur to one of his disciples and find out.
The Supreme Personality of Godhead’s activities when He comes to Earth are so extraordinary that people are still talking about them fifty centuries later.
And when He comes, He doesn’t come alone. Who does He bring with Him? Not just anybody. He brings His extraordinary friends with Him. What kind of lives do they live? Extraordinary lives.
In this episode, Chaturatma dasa shares some remarkable highlights in the lives of the devotees of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, (compiled from the Chaitanya Charitamrita, Chaitanya Bhagavata, and Bhakti Ratnakar.)
A personal meeting with Srila Prabhupada was never disappointing. In fact, he often gave his visitors much more than they were expecting. See for yourself how he dealt with this team of reporters who came to interview him upon his arrival in the Dallas airport in 1975.
One of my favorite dishes to make is stir fry. It’s exciting! I like frying things. It fills the apartment with the scent of doing something. Most cooking does this, but stir fry does it best. It’s like when you walk into a temple and you smell them cooking. It gives me the feeling that something good is going on here. If I don’t smell cooking, I get suspicious!
“Last night at Stanford there was a screening of the documentary Why We Fight. It was well done and the people who organized the event were sincere, but I couldn’t help but feel they were missing a significant piece of the puzzle: the spiritual piece.
There was a discussion afterward, I couldn’t stay for the whole discussion but I did say my piece in a very brief form, when I got home I wrote out my thoughts a little more in depth. Here they are…”
