Is srila prahupada authorized?

Hare Krishna Prabhu,

I have a question. Please forgive me if this is in appropriate but I have a genuine doubt.

Usually the current acharya has to be authorized by the purva acharya (previous acharya) in order to take up the acharya peta.(the position of the next acharya).

What I mean is that the purva acharya has to name the next acharya inorder for him to act as an acharya.

Srila Bhaktisiddahnta Saraswati Thakur did not openly tell that Srila Prabupada will be the next acharya of the sampradaya when he was physically present.

So how did Srila Prabhupad take up this position as acharya? Once again sorry if i have offended some one but I have this doubt in my mind.

I am from south india. I recently heard the story of ramanujacharya. Yamunacharya (ramanujar's spiritual master) was about to give up his body, so he specifically sent one of his disciples to fetch ramanujar to give him the responsibility of spreading the sri vaishnava dharma and establishing him as the next acharya.

Hence I have this doubt? Please clarify this. Sorry if I have offended any one by this.

Regarding Lord Narasimha. (repost)

Dear Prabhuji, Hare Krishna !

Lord Krishna is the madhurya(sweetness) feature of the Lord. Lord Chaitanya is the audarya(merciful) feature of the Lord. Similarly Lord Narasimha is what feature of the Lord ?

The way devotees of Lord Krishna experience His feature of sweetness while they are in this material world and in Goloka Vrindavan similarly what do devotees of Lord Narasimha experience in this material world and in His spiritual planet ?

I understand that we all have a fixed relationship with the Lord so those who have an eternal relationship with Lord Narasimha will worship Him and love for Lord Narasimha will awaken in them. However still I was keen to know the answer to the above questions. I request if someone could enlighten me on the same.

Sincerely,
Mihir

Sri Nrsimha manifests various bhavas, mostly wrathful but also peaceful ones (like some of His murtis in Ahobilam or Santa Nrsimha in Puri).

Gaudiya Vaisnava siddhanta about Sri Nrsimha appearing in this universe is that He's not a form of Sri Visnu residing in one of Vaikunthas but directly Sri Krsna. His lila manifests only in the material realm. This is hinted on in SB 3.24.33 p., last par., and BG 4.8. He personifies this verse.

nrsimha-rama-krsnesu sad-gunyam paripuritam: "In Narasimha, Rama and Krsna, all the six opulences (strength, wealth, renunciation, splendor, energy, wisdom) are fully manifest." (Padma Purana, quoted by Srila Rupa Gosvami in Laghu-bhagavatamrta 1.5.16)

Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura has written five beautiful prayers in "Sri Navadvipa Bhava Taranga" for receiving the mercy of Lord Nrsimha. These prayers are certainly assurance to all sincere devotees that the worship of Lord Nrsimha is purely in the line of aspiring love and devotion to Sri Sri Radha and Krsna.

e dusta hrdaye kama adi ripu chaya
kutinati pratisthasa sathya sada raya
hrdaya-sodhana ara krsnera vasana
nrsimha-carane mora ei to' kamana

Within my sinful heart the six enemies headed by lust perpetually reside, as well as duplicity, the desire for fame, plus sheer cunning. At the lotus feet of Lord Narasimha, I hope that He will mercifully purify my heart and give me the desire to serve Lord Krsna.

kandiya nrsimha-pade magibo kakhana
nirapade navadvipe jugala-bhajana
bhaya bhaya paya yan'ra darsane se hari
prasanna hoibo kabe more daya kari

Weeping, I will beg at the lotus-feet of Lord Narasimha for the benediction of worshipping Radha and Krsna in Navadvipa, perfectly safe and free from all difficulties. When will this Lord Hari, whose terrible form strikes fear into fear itself, ever become pleased and show me His mercy?

yadyapi bhisana murti dusta-jiva-prati
prahladadi krsna-bhakta-jane bhadra ati
kabe va prasanna ho'ye sa krpa-vacane
nirbhaya karibe ei mudha akincane

Even though Lord Narasimha is terrifying toward the sinful souls, He offers great auspiciousness unto the devotees of Lord Krsna headed by Prahlada Maharaja. When will He be pleased to speak words of compassion unto me, a worthless fool, and thereby make me fearless?

svacchande baiso he vatsa sri-gauranga-dhame
jugala-bhajana hau rati hau name
mama bhakta-krpa-bale vighna jabe dura
suddha cite bhajo radha-krsna-rasa-pura

He will say, "Dear child! Sit down freely and live happily here in Sri Gauranga-dhama. May you nicely worship the Divine Couple, and may you develop loving attachment for Their Holy Names. By the mercy of My devotees, all obstacles are cast far away. With a purified heart, just perform the worship of Radha and Krsna, for such worship overflows with sweet nectar."

ei boli' kabe mora mastaka-upara
sviya sri-carana harse dharibe isvara
amani jugala-preme sattvika vikare
dharaya lutibo ami sri-nrsimha-dvare

Saying this, will that Lord delightedly place His own divine lotus-feet upon my head? I will experience sublime love for the Divine Couple Radha-Krsna and undergo the ecstatic transformations called sattvika. Falling on the ground, I will roll about at the door of Sri Narasimha's temple. (Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Sri Navadvipa Bhava Taranga 36-40)

Bhaktivinoda Thakura prays to Sri Nrsimhadeva to clear his path to Radha Krsna worship. He wouldn't be praying to the equivalent of an "ordinary" Visnu tattva in Vaikuntha for entrance into Goloka.

Another argument against the identity of the two Nrsimhas is that the Pancaratra texts identify the Nrsimha avatara of the dasavatara as manifesting from Sankarsana: haris sankarsanamsena narasimha-vapur dharah (Padma tantra 1.2.31 and Visnu-dharmottara Purana 3.78(2).5-7) However, the vyuha Nrsimha is manifested from Pradyumna (CC Madhya 20.206).

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I have a poem and a message to share with you. The poem is entitled the Nectar of the Lord's Names and following that are my thoughts connected with Krishna consciousness.
Now here is the poem:

You will win all life's battles if you keep the Lord's Names as your constant companion;
Actually, The Lord and His Names are identical, for we see, in the Gita, that Arjuna with Krishna as his charioteer and companion won even when faced with many an obstacle and battalion.
The nectar of Krishna's Names give you the soul power you need;
And the eternal creeper of love Godhead will grow in your heart if you use devout chanting of Krishna's Names to water its seed.
As you get attached to the Holy Name; you will lose any taste for material distractions and even name and fame.
Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON has given the whole world the gift of the vehicle of the Holy Name; for all to use to obtain our true aim.

To elucidate the depth and utter significance that ISKCON has impacted on me please read the message below:

Actually, the Maha Mantra is the most useful and sure vehicle to transfer us back to our true Home where we belong as pure spirit soul. So, of all our engagements-chanting the Maha Mantra is indeed the most positive and meaningful one. This is the message of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu which has been so nicely delivered to and incorporated into the international community by none other than Srila Prabhupada through the via medium of his wonderful Hare Krishna movement or ISKCON which has surely changed the world forever. There are centers to be found throughout the world. Srila Prabhupada in fact saved me and all human beings from the jaws of the greatest of dangers, namely, spiritual death.

Personally I have been to Vrindavana, India(Bharata Varsya) and my stay there is still firmly etched in my mind. I simply cannot forget the magnificent Deities of the Krishna-Balarama Mandir present at the ISKCON temple in Bhaktivedanta Swami Marg there.

I sincerely hope you enjoy my realisations and look forward to correspondence from readers.

Thank you.

Draupati's surrender ?

I have a question and request someone to enlighten me with it.

When the Kauravas tried to disrobe Draupati first she asked help from her husbands, then the king Dhritrashtra, then great personalities like Bhishma, Drona etc but all failed. Finally when she was just being disrobed she was so helpless that she called out to Krishna and got saved. It is said that our surrender should be like Draupadi where we should call out to Krishna in a helpless mood.

Now our acharyas have said that when Draupati asked others for help Krishna did not save her because it meant that she was more dependent on others than Krishna. Therefore our acharyas have said that we should learn from this pastime and not ask material people for help rather ask Krishna for help directly in a mood of surrender like Draupati.

However I am seeing something much positive in this pastime which may go against what our acharyas have said so I ask for forgiveness for any offenses. Actually we can learn from this pastime that like Draupati we should try our best not to harass Lord Krishna for our material problems. Therefore like Draupati first we should try our best to solve our problems and if everything fails then it is natural that one will become helpless and call out to Krishna in the mood of surrender. If it is said that Draupati should have called out to Krishna from the beginning without asking help from someone else then she could have asked for Krishna's help right in the beginning when she was being pulled out by her hair (first she was pulled out by the hair in the assembly where the Kauravas were then an attempt to disrobe her was made). However won't it mean that the moment a material problem starts and if we harass Krishna for help then it is more like we are chanting for the fulfillment of our material desires rather than love of God. Therefore I request someone to let me know that why is Draupati criticized for asking help from her husbands ?

New To Krishna consciousness with some questions about lifestyle

Hi, I was after some advice about consciousness.

I have read books by Srila Prahupada on and off many times over the years but have now decided I want to commit my self to a Krishna consciousness. I was wondering how I am supposed to live this lifestyle living in a modern working world? I am married and work 45 hours a week and I am wondering if some of you have advice how I fit this all in. It seems that the bhagavad gita would have me give everything up and become a 100% devotee who lives in a temple. This is simply not an option for me so I am after advice about how to live this lifestyle in a world where I am married and have to work. My wife is very supportive and is interested her self so that is not a problem but I just want to know what steps I should take.

Any advice would be great for people who may have experienced the same problems.

Hare Krishna

There's no universal answer to this since everyone's situation is different. Therefore Krsna describes in BG 12 various levels of commitment.
Some grhastha devotees decrease their material needs and devote more time to KC. Others tend more to karma misra bhakti or karma yoga. Ask various grhasthas in your local temple and with their help try to figure out the best approach for your situation.

The spiritual form of the jiva ?

Does the soul have a form or it is formless ? If it has a form then why does Lord Krishna award the soul a spiritual form. I read that the soul is given the body of Krishna and then the soul becomes one with that body. In other words the soul is one in quality with Krishna but different in quantity. Now only if the soul is formless a need arises for the Lord to give His own body to the soul otherwise if the soul already had a form then what was the need for the Lord to give His own body to the soul. I request someone to explain in detail ?

--
We have our spiritual form (svarupa) but while we're in samsara this form is shrunk into a mere spiritual spark. By spiritual practice we develop our svarupa again.
"the soul is given the body of Krishna" isn't exact. In Vaikuntha svarupa looks like Visnu's form (minus Srivatsa) but in Goloka it can be of various types as per our rasa.

Reaction for offenses ?

I have a query from Jaiva Dharma and request someone to guide me with the same. Following is from Jaiva Dharma-

Babaji: The holy name fulfils the chanter's desires, whatever they are. However, to the offensive chanter the holy name will not give pure love for Lord Krsna (krsna-prema). Eventually the offensive chanter must taste the result of his offenses. However, a person who, although he commits offenses to the holy name, regularly chants the holy name will attain the result of his chanting. After some time his chanting will become a great transcendental pious deed. As that transcendental pious deed grows greater and greater, he will attain the association of saintly devotees who devotedly chant the holy name in a pure way. Thus by always chanting the holy name, the offender eventually becomes free of his offenses to the holy name. By following this path even impersonalists gradually become sincere devotees of Lord Hari.

Here it is clearly stated that chanting fulfills all the material desires of the chanter. However then it says that the chanter will have to take reaction. Can someone please tell me that why will the chanter have to take reaction later on ?

--
Since every material action brings reactions, even though it was a material blessing.

Why is love in seperation in the material world considered greater ?
Submitted by Mihir Sheth on Fri, 2013-07-05 11:03

Hare Krishna dear devotees, Please accept my humble obeisances !

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said that we should not desire to see the Lord face to face in the spiritual world because love in separation in the material world is greater than seeing the Lord face to face in the spiritual world. However even the associates in Goloka Vrindavana experience love in separation. For example the gopis in the spiritual world are not always with Krishna. When Krishna goes to play with His cowherd friends then the gopis feel such intense separation that they feel one moment to be like twelve years. I understand that their love in separation does not last long because when Krishna returns He then spends time with the gopis whereas in the material world there is constant love in separation. However I am sure that the love in separation a pure devotee experiences in this material world cannot be compared to the love in separation of the gopis because when the gopis feel love in separation in Goloka Vrindavana then they feel their one moment to be like twelve years whereas I doubt if the pure devotees in this material world can feel the same as the gopis. Even Madhurya Kadambini says that in this material world a pure devotee can maximum reach the stage of Prema but the stage of Mahabhava that the gopis experience is available only in the spiritual world which may be one reason why the love in separation of the gopis is so intense. Therefore I feel that love in separation in the spiritual world is greater. However it is said that love in separation in the material world is greater. I request someone to guide me that why is love in separation in the material world considered greater than the love in separation in the spiritual world ?

ys,
Mihir.

> Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said that we should not desire to see the Lord face to face in the spiritual world because love in separation in the material world is greater than seeing the Lord face to face in the spiritual world.

When one achieves one's svarupa realization, one outwardly manifests vipralambha and in meditation sees asta kaliya lila.
This is the humble, safe attitude preventing a devotee to become proud of always seeing Krsna. That was shown by our acaryas.

Gopis's bhava has no comparison.

> Even Madhurya Kadambini says that in this material world a pure devotee can maximum reach the stage of Prema but the stage of Mahabhava that the gopis experience is available only in the spiritual world which may be one reason why the love in separation of the gopis is so intense.

Where in Madhurya kadambini it's said? I couldn't find it.

> Therefore I feel that love in separation in the spiritual world is greater. However it is said that love in separation in the material world is greater.

Samyoga and vipralambha are like two sides of the same coin, they nourish each other. In Goloka (divya) Vrndavan the original Shyamasundara Krsna never leaves Vrndavan and is eternally accompanied by the original Radha called in Sanatkumara samhita Kirtida-putri and Vrsabhanu-nandini. When in His bhauma lila He leaves Vraja, She expands as viyogini manifesting vipralambha in Vraja and samyogini going to meet Him at Kuruksetra.

The Bhagavad-gita without comments

Hello. I've been looking for The Bhagavad-gita translated by Shrila Prabhupada but without his comments, just the narration. Do they have such an edition?

answer:
No, there's just a Sanskrit-only edition for chanting.

Ghristha ashram

The Supreme Lord states in the Bhagavad Gita that one who says he is my devotee is not my devotee but one who is devotee of my devotee is my devotee. In other words, serving devotees of Krishna is better than serving Krishna directly.

People in renounced order of life i.e. bhramacharis, vanaprasthas, sannyasis offer direct service to the Lord. However, the Ghristhas work and support those offering direct service. Thus, can we say that Ghristha ashram is higher because they are serving the servants of Lord.

answer:
In this sense yes but on the other hand they're closer to maya in the form of money, etc. So every asram has some advantages and some disadvantages.
Btw, it's Grihastha, not Ghristha.
