What are the benefits of practicing Krishna consciousness?

Practicing Krishna consciousness—chanting Hare Krishna, and reading the Bhagavad-gita, for example—frees us from fear of death, because we learn that the self never dies. We become more aware of our relationship with the Supreme Person, Krishna, and feel His loving, caring presence in our life.

When we make an effort to improve our consciousness in this way, the temporary pains of this world don't cause us as much suffering, because we know we're eternal, and that everything is under God's control. We also become more peaceful, because practicing Krishna consciousness frees us from so many cravings for temporary pleasures, which ultimately cause us pain; either we become disappointed or we despair when the pleasure inevitably ends.

Ultimately, the result of practicing Krishna consciousness is that we completely uncover our own pure sense of who we are, as eternally blissful servants of Krishna. In such an ecstatic state, we awaken to our real, permanent existence in the spiritual world, which is our real home. We're frankly surprised that more people don't give it a try.
