I'm new here...

...and interested in Krishna Consciousness. I am reading some of the books. I live about 2 hours from the nearest temple, and the temple I talked to said there are no devotees that they know of in my immediate area. I recite the maha-mantra as well as repeat it silently and listen to mp3's i've downloaded of it. I am wondering if one who recites the mantra [and/or repeats it silently] will have their consciousness purified to the point that they will be able to live the regulative principles if they aren't currently. I am also wondering if Krishna answers prayers.

Hare Krishna!! I'm new here

Hare Krishna!! I'm new here too. I only just joined yesterday but have been into Krishna consciousness for about a year now. It's amazing! Krishna does answer prayers - as Jan said, sometimes it can be in a different way and in a way you'd never expect! But he does.
You say you've downloaded MP3s - have you tried listening to the 24 hour kirtans on They're really good! Also, which books are you reading? I can never get enough of the Bhagavad Gita and I'm currently reading the Srimad Bhagavatam.

Chant and be happy!

Your servant,

Hare krishna,

I am new here too. I am learning a lot about Hinduism through this forum and also by reading bhagavad gita. I would like to share something with all of you. It is thought provoking that how Hiduism is different from other religions, in that Hinduism holds own responsible for his or her actions. Nobody can save you, but your own self. If you make a mistake, the only way you reduce the punishment for your sins is by providing services to the people sincerely. The concept of Kharma puts fear in person not to cross the line. Most importantly, how Lord Krishna teaches people that the world is illusion and one needs to get detached from all of it to become one with him. Ones you become one with him, you achieve eternal bliss, salvation. Other important things are, for a hindu wife, her husband is her living god, without respecting and taking care of him,she cannot attain salvation just by praying. Same kinda principle holds for people in general.

I live in orange county, California, would love to be a part of ISKON in tustin in near future.

Hare Krishna,

Hare Krsna Vinaya! Hope you

Hare Krsna Vinaya! Hope you are well. Thanks a lot for your message. One thing that I've also noticed is that some people's perspective of Hinduism is quite distorted. For example, there are many Hindus (especially in the area where I live) who don't even know that Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead despite the fact that some of them may have read the Bhagavad Gita in which Krsna says many times that he is the Supreme. Actually, the elders in my family thought that Lord Shiva was the Supreme Lord. But after my sister and I read Srila Prabhupada's books, we were able to explain that it is not Shiva, in fact, it is Krsna. You said you read the Gita, have you tried reading Srimad Bhagavatam? Srila Prabhupada described it as the encyclopaedia of spiritual life!

Hare Krsna,

Hare Krsna Roma, Thank you so

Hare Krsna Roma,

Thank you so much for ur email. There are 2 main schools of thought in Hinduism. One is Dvaita and the other Advaita. Dvaita is dualist school of Vedanta Hindu philosophy. Advaita is non dualist, non secterian. Dualist belief is god is separate from Human Being. Non dualist belief is your soul is god, god is not separate from you. Vaishnavism and Shivism belong to dvaita belief system. Vaishnavites believe that Lord Vishnu is the supreme god and Shaivaites belief it is Lord Shiva. The advaita(established by Adi Sankaracharya) also called Smarta sampradaya belief is that god is supreme, nonsecterian, doesnt agree with one god being superior over the other.

So it is upto you to follow what you are comfortable with. Here in ISKON, Lord Vishnu is considered supreme. I am a smarta brahmin from Andhra Pradesh, but I joined ISKON recently and appreciate all the work ISKON is doing and I love being a part of ISKON.

Hare krsna,

Haribol Vinaya. Thanks for

Haribol Vinaya. Thanks for your reply and thank you also for the deep insight.

That's great! I love being a part of ISKCON too. So are you currently living in Andhra Pradesh? I'm from UK but my family come from India.

Nice talking to you!

Hare Krsna,

Hare Krishna Vinaya, welcome

Hare Krishna Vinaya,

welcome too. Vaisnavas recognize Krsna as the ultimate savior. Saving is possible only with His power and permission.
Sin reactions (bad karma) aren't reduced by serving people (good karma) but by serving Krsna (akarma). Bad and good karma are separate stocks. Akarma burns both.
By becoming one with Krsna is meant unity of purpose, not ending one's individuality which is eternal.
Are there any ISKCON devotees in Tustin?

Happy Janmastami!

Hare krishna Jan,

Thank you so much for your guidance and clarification, appreciate it very much. I have not visited the Tustin center yet, will visit after labour day and update you.

May Lord krishna bless you all,

Hare Krsna Shane and welcome

Hare Krsna Shane and welcome here.

The mahamantra and other Krsna mantras purify the mind depending on the purity of the chanting. It's like if you play a record on a cheap device vs. a hifi set, the quality is vastly different.
At the beginning, usually a few months, Krsna helps and gives us more than the low quality chanting produces, like when parents hold the toddler by his hands when he makes his first steps. Later He lets us 'walk on our own' and thus the effect will go apparently down since by then it's up to us to make progress in purification.

Yes, Krsna answers prayers (my experience is that my prayers are usually fulfiled within a week) but sometimes in a different way than we want. We go after the immediate benefit but He sees the big picture and tries to show us our ultimate benefit, pure bhakti.

Hope this helps. Hari Hari

Yes Prayers Are Answered

Than you again Jan for such a wonderful answer. A story was told once that ten people all had the same ailment. Each of them received the same miracle. Each of them received the same medication. Nine of them chalked up their healing to science. One of them gave thanks for the miracle. I think sometimes it is better, rather than to pray for things, to simply be the saying thank you, realizing that the actual needs have already been met. Anything else is a desire. Sometimes it isn't always easy cyphering needs from desires. But then again, if the need is actual, then the fulfillment of that need has already presented itself. There's nothing left to say other than thank you, well, perhaps there is, HARIBOL.
